Booking airline flights with miles for the first time.

Yesterday I tried to book a flight with American Airlines and am getting a real education. I never had enough miles to beeok a flight before and was just 4,000 miles short to book a flight to go the the PMC Conference in June. I called the airline to add some miles that had not been registered before and was transferred 3 times before the agent told me to buy the missing miles that I needed for $158.00, and to hold the flight that  wanted. Apparently to HOLD a flight for more than 24 hours it must be done through a different department. What did I know? When I called back to pay for the flight, my HOLD had expired, I could not use the miles that I bought, they could not be refunded, and the price of the flight had gone way up. Now I am bafled and pissed. I can't wait much longer and this is costing me much more than I anticipated. As a consumer I am disgusted that I was mislead, but it was not done intentionally. That's the way it looks on the surface, but I am feeling cheated as a novice at booking flights with miles.

Catching up on my blog. Here's what's new:

Thanks for responding to my musings, and please write to me. I've been a horrible blogger, and have not been able to wrap my brain around it, but I'm hoping to ,so please help me out with comments and questions.
Here's what's  been going on lately: I am the new jewelry instructor in Michael's Arts and Craft Store in Dadeland Station in Miami. it's been a little hectic there as I have had to go through a new learning curve that anyone would go through in taking on any new project, but I am enjoying it for now because I'm meeting a lot of new people who want to learn how to start making jewelry. I'll be posting my monthly schedule of classes as soon as I create a new page on my website. Even my mom is going to take some classes. Until mid -October there is a cool promotion of a FREE jewelry kit with the purchase of a jewelry class. You will have to go to the store to sign up. I don't do that part.
My metal clay classes are still going strong. I'm still doing private classes in my studio. I also will certify those who are ready to go through the certification process. The most exciting thing is that I am going to teach a very comprehensive metal clay course at the Miami Jewelry School. This will take students through all the Basic, Interemdiate, and Advanced skills all in one place in sequential order. Oh, if there was only something like that when I was learning. Well, the universe must want me to do it,so I have more work to do. I'll be posting those classes as soon as I can- maybe in November.
Please let me know that all my musings are out there by writing any comments and/or questions to this blog. Rolling On now!!

Moon Rock Pendant from Iguana Poop

Iguana Poop to Moon Rocks

When Life Gives You Iguana Poop, Make Moon Rocks.
Last year I had five lovely students at the Art Center on Miami Beach. Some of you might remember me mentioning this, or maybe you were there. Anyway... the kiln in the studio melted everyone's pieces. I was mortified when I opened that kiln. The blood drained from my head, and I felt like I was going to faint when I saw all that iguana poop glowing in the vermiculite. That was a lesson that I don't need to learn twice. "Know your kiln". So this poop has been sitting in my studio for almost a year. Everytime I look at it, it reminds me of the expensive lesson that I learned the hard way. Of course I had to give everyone another bag of metal clay and studio time to remake their jewelry. Bless their hearts. They were so understanding, and nice about it.
So now everytime I show someone the "dreaded poop" they say that it looks interesting. After 3 or 4 people said that, I started looking at it with "new eyes". Maybe I could turn the "poop" into something artistic and cool. I cleaned most of the vermiculite off with a radial bristle disk on my flexshaft, and tumbled them for about an hour. Now the poop was shiny and resembled" moon rocks" instead. From now on I will refer to them as the moon rocks since the transformation-thank God. One of the pieces started speaking to me in some alien tongue, but I understood ,and began to draw and design how I was going to use it in a new piece of jewelry. I made a pendant out of metal clay and it's sitting on my desk until tomorrow when I can work on it a little more.
I'm so glad I didn't send these moon rocks to the refiner. I almost did.

Monday Jan. 3, 2011

Monday Jan. 3, 2011- I've just updated the class dates on my website and hope to be able to post more. I still can't get my mind around the blogging thing, but I'll try to think of it like a journal. I don't read anyone elses blogs, so I don't understand why anyone would want to read mine or anyone elses, but I'll try to put some interesting things here that you might like to read. Sorry to say that my life isn't that juicy so you might be bored.
Today Pam East called me to talk about having a class here in the future. She is a wonderful metal clay enamelist. I do hope that she will be able to come here through JAG.
I was pleasantly shocked to win 4th place in the Lark Book Jewelry Design challenge. They made a book about the first one. They sent 30 well-known studio jewelers a bunch of specific materials and told them to use as many of the materials that they wanted in a piece of jewelry that they design and make. They could also add one material of their choice as a wildcard. So then Lark got together with Rio Grande and put the challenge out to anyone who wanted to enter. I being of unsound mind and judgement -decided to try it. I used some of the materials and metal clay as my wildcard. It was fun and I challenged my self because I have not had a lot of experience with riveting, and I did not solder anything on this piece. It's all tube rivited. I was very proud of myself.Check it out. The first 3 winners have made wonderful pieces.http://www.larkcrafts.com/jewelry-beading/jewelry-design-challenge-winners/

Welcome and a new piece.

Welcome anyone who reads this blog. I would be so thrilled and honored if you were to write something to me. I'm new at this.

Today I worked on a piece that I became really excited about because it looks better than i thought it would. Imagine that! Pictures to come soon.
